About us

The Anti-Racism Network Basel-Stadt brings together committed key individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. This diversity is a key factor in the effectiveness of our work. Through our commitment, we support people affected by racism within their own migrant and faith communities, facilitate access to contact points and counselling services, and ensure well-founded knowledge about cases of racist discrimination and their societal consequences.

We speak the following languages: German, Español / Spanish, Français / French, English, Turkish / Türkçe, Yoruba, Pidgin English, Amharic, Tigrinya, Albanian / Shqipe, Somali / Taas waa luuqad, Română / Romanian, Italiano / Italian, Malayalam

In the Anti-Racism Network, we join forces to strengthen communities sustainably and take a firm stand against racism. Community work is political: it makes power relations visible, creates spaces for empowerment, and calls for societal responsibility. We stand for a society that names racism openly, acknowledges it, and acts in solidarity for structural change.

Working with the Anti-Racism Network is very important to me because I can build a bridge between my community and the system in order to change some discriminatory narratives that Black people and migrants in general are exposed to in Switzerland.

Even as a child, I wanted to stand up for people who need help, which is why I decided in my childhood to study law. I see the Anti-Racism Network project as a very good opportunity to do something about the major problem of racist discrimination with a great team.

Maneva

German, English, French

I am involved in the “Anti-Racism Network” because racism is an everyday and harmful problem in my community, but it still receives far too little attention and recognition. I want to create safe spaces where people affected by racism can express themselves and receive psychological as well as legal support.

Diversity is strength. Hate is not an opinion. With the Anti-Racism Network, we stand together against racism and discrimination—for a fair and open society. That is why I say: Stop discrimination. Stop racism. Together for respect and humanity.

I am committed to opposing every form of discrimination. With the Anti-Racism Network, I can strengthen my community and reach a larger number of people. Since racism can cause a great deal of harm, it is important to me to raise awareness of this issue and initiate a shift in thinking in society.

Working with the Anti-Racism Network is important to me because this is an issue that must be spoken about openly, and one where our society needs support and awareness-raising.

I am involved in the Racism Network because I believe racism is not recognised enough and not fought against sufficiently. I want to live in a society where people can live peacefully and in harmony.

I am involved in the Anti-Racism Network because racism is an everyday reality for many people around me. From my many years of community work, I know how important visibility, safe spaces, and mutual empowerment are. It matters to me not only to name racism, but to act against it actively: to listen, to take experiences seriously, and to build bridges between communities and societal structures. The network enables me to share knowledge, learn from one another, and take responsibility together.

Working with the Anti-Racism Network is crucial for me, as I have been confronted with racism since childhood. I want to use my experiences to build a bridge between my community and society, change discriminatory narratives, and raise awareness for change. I also want things to move in this area. That is why I am involved with the Anti-Racism Network.

To combat prejudice and curb incidents of racism and discrimination, courage and strong commitment are needed. It takes people who stand up for this and contribute to stronger protection against discrimination as well as a change in the legal basis.
